Tragic news has hit the punk rock community. Tony Sly, vocalist, lead guitarist and songwriter for No Use for a Name, has passed away. The cause of death has not been announced. He was 41 and leaves a wife and kids behind.
NUFAN was a mainstay in the So. Cal. melodic punk scene started by bands like Bad Religion, 7 Seconds and the Descendents and later championed by the long running Vans Warped Tour. Tony was an everyman songwriter. He didn’t have the flash or outlandish personality of some of the other lead singers of the genre, he just sang memorable, heartfelt songs about life and love, friendship, and the struggle we all have of trying to get through life with as few emotional bruises as possible. He will be sorely missed by everyone in our community.
